Dentistry in Vietnam for Foreigners: Prices & 5 Clinic Criteria

Dentistry in Vietnam

Dental implants at one-third of European prices, crowns in 2–3 days — dentistry draws many foreigners to fly to Vietnam for dental work. But cheap prices bring risks at the wrong clinic. This guide separates reputable clinics from cut-price “mills”.

Why Vietnamese dentistry attracts foreigners

  • Price: implants VND 15–35M/fixture (Europe EUR 3,000–5,000), crowns VND 3–8M/tooth, clear aligners VND 60–120M — one-third to one-half of Western prices with equivalent imported materials.
  • Speed: international clinics work weekends, planning full treatment packages for tourists (implants + crowns in 2–3 weeks).
  • English: international dental clinics (Westcoast, Elite Dental, Sydney Dental…) consult and warrant in English.

5 criteria for a reputable clinic

  • 1. Operating licence: clinics need Department of Health licences — verify on the provincial health portal.
  • 2. Licensed dentists: ask for the treating dentist’s name and check their practising certificate — “shock-price” clinics often use fresh graduates or non-implant specialists.
  • 3. Traceable materials: implants (Straumann, Nobel, Osstem…), crowns (German Zirconia…) — demand material names and written warranties.
  • 4. Written treatment plan: diagnosis, X-ray/CT films, protocol, all-in cost, follow-up schedule — never proceed on verbal promises.
  • 5. Warranty policy: implants 10 years–lifetime (by brand), crowns 5–10 years — written warranties valid after you return home (remote/agent support).

Does HI cover dental?

HI covers part of listed dental treatment (extractions, root canals, fillings…) at contracted facilities. Not covered: implants, cosmetic crowns, orthodontics, whitening. Some international plans have separate dental riders (usually annual caps) — check your policy.

FAQs

Problems after returning home?

Choose clinics with international/remote warranties; keep all films, plans and invoices — your home dentist needs them for follow-up. Avoid “done-and-dusted” clinics.

Clear aligners in Vietnam — reliable?

International aligner brands (Invisalign…) have Vietnamese representation — treatment via brand-certified doctors. Cheaper than the West, but insist on certified doctors, not “copycat trays”.

Children’s orthodontics in Vietnam?

Yes — many clinics run paediatric orthodontics. HI doesn’t cover braces (cosmetic); costs are out-of-pocket or private insurance.
